Climb the highest mountain of Costa Rica, experience a unique change in the environment as you start out from a tropical forest and make your way to the subalpine moor forest at the top! Visit the unique rock formations formed millions of years ago and watch the sunrise from high above and with a bit of luck glance at both coasts.

Day 1: Arrive by your own to San Gerardo de Rivas town before 2 pm. This place is your ‘jumping off’ point for the hike. Take the time to explore this magical place. Bathe in the gorgeous hot pools, take a horseback through the mountains or set out with camera and binoculars to catch sight of birds and animals commonly seen in this unspoiled region. Dinner, Room and Breakfast Included.
Day 2: Early morning breakfast. You will be transferred to the entrance point to start hiking by 5:00 a.m. During the ascent you’ll see animals like toucans, trogons and many others that can show up in the cloud forest and moorlands famous for its dwarf vegetation.
Upon arrival to El Paramo Environmental Refuge Center, you will check in and have a delicious lunch. Relax and recover the energy for the rest of the afternoon, enjoy the beautiful landscapes and surroundings. Lunch, Dinner, Room and Breakfast Included.
Day 3: After breakfast, you will trek to the Chirripó Mountain. There are numerous glacial lakes in the area, which is why the Talamanca Indians called this area “Chirripó” that means: "Place of Enchanted Waters." On a clear day you may admire the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean views. Later descend to “Valle de los Conejos”, hike to the Terbi and Crestones hills and afternoon return to the Refuge. Day 4: After breakfast you will hike all the way back to San Gerardo de Rivas where you will be received with a delicious lunch. Change clothes, relax and continue with your vacation on your own.
Backpack suitable for mountaineering, preferably with wide supports for the shoulders and hooks on the chest and
hip that allows a better weight distribution. If you are going to transport all your luggage it should have a capacity of at least 45 liters. If you plan to use a carrier service please bring a daypack suitable to store all the necessary items.
Clothes:
The clothing must include: 2 t-shirts, 3 pairs of socks (2 that are warm), gloves, a hat that covers ears, a sweatshirt or
pajamas to sleep in, a good sweater preferably windbreaker, long-sleeved shirt for walking, pants
comfortable for walking and comfortable, not tight underwear. Important; DO NOT bring jeans to perform this tour.
Rainjacket (indispensable) and cover for the Backpack.
A pair of shoes that resist water and rocky areas (if they are bought to make the trip, do it with at least 15 days of
in advance and use them as much as possible before the trip).
A pair of light tennis shoes or sandals.
One headlamp per person (indispensable). Please invest in a good quality bulb, preferably headlamps that
can be placed on the head and USB charged.
Sunscreen 50+ water/sweatproof (indispensable).
Lip balm (essential), rose cream or Vaseline.
