This tour is designed for groups interested in Conservation topics. You will live and work on the Osa Peninsula to discover its amazing nature with exclusive day and night excursions and a visit to the Borucan Indigenous community.
SJO-PUERTO JIMENEZ-CARATE-DANTA LODGE-DRAKE BAY-BORUCA RESERVE-SJO
Day 1: Arrival to SJO International Airport and transfer to your hotel in the Central Valley. Room and Breakfast included.
Day 2: Morning pick up for a Poas Volcano National Park tour, Doka Estate and La Paz Waterfall Gardens. As you ascend towards the volcano you will stop for a brief explanation of the coffee “golden bean” process. At the volcano you will have time to observe the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles. Then you will hike on a trail to the beautiful Botos Lagoon that will allow you to learn about the different ecosystems in the park. Later the trip continues towards La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a natural park where you will walk through many spectacular trails which will take you to the White Magic Waterfall, the most spectacular one in the area. Inside the park you will also visit the largest butterfly observatory in the country that is known as the house of collections of tropical jewels and the impressive hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the old house, the bird house and once the walk has finished, you will enjoy a delicious lunch buffet. Day 3: Morning pick up for a transfer to Puerto Jimenez in the South Pacific. You will stop by the Tarcoles River a hot spot for alligators watching famous in the country and later on will have lunch at a restaurant on the way. Continue to Puerto Jimenez, from there you’ll be collected to go Carate. Room and meals included.
Day 4 to day 12: During these days you will participate in a conservation field course and sea turtle conservation program including volunteering activities in the area. Carate is located very close to the amazing and beautiful Corcovado National Park on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by lush green tropical forest, it is known as the best kept secret in Costa Rica. Home to many species of wildlife including sea turtles that come ashore, nest and lay their eggs on the beach. Take the time to visit it during these days. It’s a special remote place for nature lovers! Room and meals included.
Day 13: Transfer back to Puerto Jimenez where you’ll enjoy a boat tour in the “Golfo Dulce” with its scenery mangroves, abundant wildlife and swimming beaches. The naturalist guide will point out the nature wonders while you admire the tranquility of the gulf and stunning views. Dolphins often swim close by as well as aquatic birds and crocodiles may be spotted. **This tour operates with minimum of 4 people**Later on, you will be picked up to continue to Danta Lodge. This place exudes warmth, creativity and style. Unwind in one of their hammocks after a long day of adventure or simply spend the day disconnected from your hectic live letting Mother Nature heal and energize you. Room and breakfast included.
Day 14: Today you will be picked up to have an organic Chocolate tour at an agriculture farm, where cocoa is the largest crop. There are lush areas of primary and secondary forests that have allowed species like the tapir be seen on the property. A mixture of ecology and sustainability. Room and breakfast included
Day 15: Today you will head to the beautiful Drake Bay. A magical place where it is believed that Sir Francis Drake hid his treasure somewhere in this beautiful bay. Here you will find lots of marvelous natural treasures, like lush rainforests and colorful marine life. Room and meals included.
Day 16: Morning snorkeling tour to Caño Island and surroundings. Enjoy the 40 min boat ride until the island where you may observe dolphins, whales, sea snakes, sea turtles and other species.
The guide will accompany you during the snorkeling, showing different marine species that can be observed, these include many species of colorful coral fish, sea stars, eels, turtles, white tip sharks, among many others.
You will later move to a different area for snorkeling, and then to the nearby San Josecito Beach to have lunch and enjoy this beautiful white sand beach. Room and meals included.
Day 17: Day off to relax and explore the surroundings or relax at the hotel. There are many options for hiking, diving, fishing, tubing or visiting the treetops that will definitely make the most out of your trip. Room and meals included.
Day 18: Today you will take a taxi boat to Sierpe where you will be picked up and continue your trip to Boruca Indigenous Reserve to spend the night and get inspired by the folksy and picturesque atmosphere. Borucas are an indigenous population from the south, they are about 2,600 inhabitants in the reserve and speak the language or dialect called “Brunka”. They are known primarily for their skills as craftspeople, using materials such as balsa and sometimes cedar wood, carved masks, arrows, drums, knives, jewelry and other objects. Room and meals included.
Day 19: After a delicious breakfast you will depart towards San José, passing through pineapple plantations. Lunch will take place in a typical rancho where you will learn about the typical sugar cane processing called “Trapiche” and other features. Continue your way passing through the mountains of “Cerro de la Muerte” where you may contemplate the amazing views while heading to your hotel in the Central Valley. Room and breakfast Included.
Day 20: Transportation will be provided to the SJO International Airport. You need to be there 3 hours before your flight time.
