This 14-day expedition offers an unforgettable journey of exploration, volunteering and cultural exchange. Join us as we trek 5 days through the rugged beauty of the Talamanca Mountain Range and then immerse ourselves in the vibrant spirit of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast.
Embark on a transformative journey through the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Costa Rica's Talamanca mountain range reaching the Caribbean coast. This 14-day adventure seamlessly blends the thrill of trekking with the enriching experience of volunteering, offering a unique opportunity to connect with nature and make a meaningful impact.
The journey commences amidst the towering peaks and verdant valleys of the Talamanca Mountain Range, a haven for biodiversity and indigenous cultures. Trekking through cloud forests and alpine meadows, participants traverse rugged terrain while encountering diverse flora and fauna, including the resplendent quetzal and elusive puma. Guided by expert local naturalists, travelers gain insights into the ecological significance and conservation challenges of this pristine wilderness for 5 days and 4 nights.
Transitioning from the tranquil mountains to the vibrant coastline, participants engage in volunteer projects aimed at fostering sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Whether supporting reforestation efforts, collaborating with local communities on environmental education, beach cleanups and sustainable development initiatives, each volunteer activity offers a unique opportunity to contribute positively to the region.
Amidst the backdrop of turquoise waters and palm-fringed beaches, participants immerse themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of the Caribbean coast. From sampling traditional Afro-Caribbean cuisine to learning indigenous traditions and participating in local festivals (August), travelers gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural heritage that shapes this dynamic region.

Day 1.
Airport pickup, meet your fellow trekkies.
Day 2: Transfer to the Trekking starting point where you will meet your guide.
This is a day of hiking through local roads in a community dedicated to the cultivation of sugar cane. We will begin our walk to a village, where we will sleep in cabins/shared rooms. Distance: 14 km
Day 3. Tres Equis - Tsiobata (Indigenous Village) This day we will hike through farms and private territories, some dedicated to livestock and others dedicated to conservation and relationship with the environment, such as the simple life of the indigenous people of the Cabecar ethnic group, after 9 kilometers we will arrive at the Indigenous Village where we will visit its museum where they exhibit both their current lifestyle and their cosmogony. Distance: 9 km
Day 4. The challenge of this route is to cross the territories of Nairi Awari, where we hope to see exuberant nature, we must be careful because we are visitors to the area, we can see flora and fauna that deserves our respect. Lunch will be on the outskirts of the indigenous territory, where they have a camp with incredible views of the Barbilla National Park. Distance: 13 km
Day 5. We begin the descent towards the plains of the Caribbean, there are few parts where you can admire the beauty of the plains and the sea, stage 2 offers this possibility, we finish in the community of Cimarrones, where we will enjoy a delicious Caribbean-style lunch. Depending on availability we can sleep in a camp, or in a hotel if the camp is not available. Distance: 15km
Day 6. Canals + Transfer to your volunteer project. We will wake up early to have a transfer to the dock, where our captain is waiting for us to venture into the Tortuguero canals but further south sharing with the town of Pacuare, we will take a tour to learn about flora and fauna at the Pacuare River and Lagoon. We will have lunch at a local family farm. Afterwards we continue our trip to Puerto Viejo/Cahuita.
Day 7: After the full challenge hike we
Day 8: Beach cleanup in the morning: help us to maintain the local beaches free of plastic and support one of our weekly beach cleanups!
Day 9: Recycling Workshop with our project PLASTIC FREE PLANET (https://www.planetconservation.org/campaigns/caribe-libre-de-plastico/)
Day 10: Reforestation and games in local social project and/or school
Day 11: Cahuita National Park, guided hike
Day 12: Caribbean cooking class w/lunch
Day 13: Return to San Jose with last night stay and dinner
Day 14: After breakfast Airport drop off

Day 1.
Airport pickup, meet your fellow trekkies.
Day 2: Transfer to the Trekking starting point where you will meet your guide.
