Learn about the chocolate production and the biodiversity of the Caribbean.
This is a very interesting tour where you can see the whole chocolate making process. You will also visit an Afro-Caribbean and Indigenous museum. The tour begins by visiting a cocoa plantation that grows old varieties of chocolate plants which are not resistant to pests, then to a plantation of chocolate trees that are resistant to local pests.
Afterwards, we will visit the Chocolate Museum where you can see an old cocoa dryer which was formerly used in addition to the sun for drying cocoa and fermenting it. You will also have the opportunity to see how chocolate is made, and the best part is, you will taste the produced chocolate!
We will visit a museum for the Afro-Caribbean culture and people that founded and created this place. A visit to a palm ranch is next on the list of activities. The palm ranch, was used by shamans and indigenous healers and it was also used as a hospital for the Bribri. Inside the house there is a museum where we can observe the indigenous tombs and the kitchen that they used to use. Furthermore we find series of figures made by the inhabitants of Bribri. After the visit to the Indigenous museum we will end up in a garden of orchids and bromeliads that completes this attractive tour. Both activities are guided by specialists.
After the visit to the chocolate museum we continue our journey with a visit to the Jaguar Rescue Center located in Cocles. This center was created to rehabilitate mistreated, injured and confiscated animals from all over the country and to reintroduce them to their natural environment in protected areas.
During your visit you will be in direct contact with wild cats, monkeys, sloths, raccoons, anteaters, marsupials, reptiles, amphibians, etc. All these animals live at the center in semi-captivity, waiting for the moment when they will be released into the wild and will face life in their natural habitats.
