Discover Bribri and Cabecar cultures of Costa Rica.
The hiking starts in an old cocoa plantation, we take a path ascending through primary and secondary forest, it’s a zone with greatest ecological and natural richest to study and share.
The guide will provide us all the necessary information about the community, history, culture, mores and all the achievements of the Wakká Könekè Association in investigation of birds on the community. Nowadays, the association work in group with the Orök Wak Ká S.A organization to create new jobs for partners and neighbors of the community. The population of the community are Bribri and Cabecar, they still conserve their clans and languages.
During the tour we can enjoy the chants of the birds, frogs and other animals; see a lot of butterflies varieties (like the morphos) and exotical flowers like heliconias; you can learn about the history of the plants and their properties. The maximum altitude of the hiking is 220 meters above sea level, during the journey we’ll do short stops until we reach an observatory platform, in that platform you can see prey and terrestrial birds during the migration in two seasons of the year. The data taken in this investigation center indicate the importance of this region to the migration of prey birds along the year.
From the observatory you can see the Talamanca and Panama mountain range, the Sixaola river valley and the Atlantic coast. If you take the all day tour we’ll continue our path through the tropical forest until we arrive to a waterfall of 27 meters, in this place you can enjoy a good bath.
On the way back we’ll visit the home of an indigenous Bribri family, in that place we can share a delicious lunch and an interesting talk about the indigenous culture, mores and traditions of this people. In the site you can find and purchase local crafts collaborating with the development of this community.
Duration: 4 hours for the half day tour, 6-8 hours for the full day tour.
Departure: 07:00 am.approximately.
The all day tour includes the lunch.
Tekking boots, binoculars, long pants, insect repelent, refreshment.
Bring swim suit and a towel for the full day tour.
